DARPA’s Optimization with Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum devices (ONISQ) program supported research into practical quantum optimization. USRA led the Scheduling Applications with Advanced Mixers collaboration with Rigetti Computing and NASA’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
The program combined hardware-aware algorithms, superconducting quantum processors, and benchmarking for scheduling and resource allocation. Phase 1 began in 2020; Phase 2 began in 2022. Related publications include work published after the funded research period.
